HMTV Canada: Hi Steve how are you?
Steve: I’m doing great Tina how are you?
HMTV Canada: I’m doing well, thank you. One of the most
common questions bands ask me is what kind of music influences and genres does
Hollywood Music TV cater to the most?
Steve: We tend to cater to all genres, although most people
see our site as being Metal/Hardcore heavy. But the only reason that is because
it shows how hard the Metal and Hardcore bands are working to get themselves PR
and Media. Mainstream media outlets tend to only promote the flavor of today,
Hollywood Music TV works hard to promote the bands and musicians that are
highly motivated in generating PR for themselves no matter what genres they
are.
HMTV Canada: How long will it take for the bands profiles to
become approved at Hollywood Music TV and how can they get their music videos
spinning on rotation at our music site?
Steve: I personally approve all profiles for all the bands
on Hollywood Music TV. What I have noticed is these bands come and start a
profile but don’t complete it, so I approve any and all completed profiles
with-in about 24 to 48 hours. We currently have over 3000 bands from around the
world on Hollywood Music TV and over 400 in the upload process, but I just
don’t have time to remind these bands to come and finish their profiles. And
besides, it shows what kind of motivation they will have once become a
Hollywood Music registered band. So, get your profiles done guys! Ha-ha, as for Music Videos, now they need to
send us in their Music Videos. And as long as they are somewhat well done and
are a Hollywood Music registered band, we will air them on HMTV. We are in the
process of the development of phases 2 & 3 of the Hollywoodmusic.tv
website, which will then allow bands to upload their own music videos to their
profile much like YouTube but also a little different.
HMTV Canada: As a promoter what do you like or dislike about
the business? What is involved with promoting and updating Hollywood Music TV?
Steve: I love promoting; I started my first band in 1978
playing guitar and playing Rush covers in a band called Matrix. There was no
Internet then so, it was all about making flyers and hitting the streets and
handing them out. The one thing I dislike is genera bashing by other genera’s,
to me for example there is no reason for a Metal band to bash on an EMO band,
because EMO was spawned from Metal and EMO fans are generally Metal fans also.
If you are truly trying to get your band out there your goal is to generate fans,
right? Well, every time you are heard bashing an EMO band by an EMO fan you are
limiting yourself to grabbing some near ears and fans, because you are
belittling the EMO fans emotional connection to someone else’s music. Music to
me is truly a self-expression and an art, whether you know how to play well or
not, does not matter to me! There is not bad music, there are only bad
productions! Concerning promoting and
updating with Hollywood Music, you get out of it what you put into it. Our goal
is to be recognized through the Music Industry as one of the top 5 websites on
the globe, and as a music community company offering PR and Media Entertainment
to the best emerging artist from all over the world. We do not encourage bands
to only have a Hollywood Music profile, we are looking to brand Hollywood Music
TV right alongside the companies we support like Myspace, Purevolume and YouTube.
HMTV Canada: How do you think the internet is helping the
music scene today?
Steve: Like I mentioned before, there was no Internet when I
was promoting my band. I think the Internet is a perfect tool for allowing
bands to get their music out there and heard by millions, but I also think that
the Internet creates laziness amongst musicians who allow it to. To believe
that by sitting behind a computer and sending out a bulletin to 30,000 friends
on Myspace is even going to attract 10% of your fans to come to your show is naive,
maybe 1% if you’re lucky. People are obsessed with so called “friends” on
Myspace and most of the people there are evaluating you on how many friends you
have so they can try and get more friends from you. Bottom line is bands need
to be out in the streets communicating with their fans and creating
relationships, networking and really building a fan base the old school way
also. The tools that Hollywood Music, Myspace and Purevolume have are great
tools and a great benefit to bands today, but bands need to understand that they
are better off in today’s world of the Internet then bands were when there was
no Internet. We feel our job at Hollywood Music TV besides the creation of a
great Media outlet for bands, is to empower bands to stop being obsessed about
getting a record deal. Stop drinking for one month and save your money to
record a great album to the best of your ability, network with a film
university and get a Music Video produced, hire a Publicist and Manager, and
get on the road and support your music, all along while you continue to work
your profiles on the internet. Then a record deal will come from a good solid
Independent Record label, you watch.
HMTV Canada: What do you think of internet radio? How do you
set up your play list and handle request for Hollywood Music TV Radio? Are
there any RIAA issues Hollywood Music TV Radio has to deal with when it comes
to spinning Hollywood Music TV Bands?
Steve: Hollywood Music Radio is merely a player that plays
the Premium Member artist on Hollywood Music TV. We upgrade bands that we feel
are creating a buzz in the industry and evaluate them by profile views, PR post
that they release, the quality of their recordings and their professionalism. They
show when marketing themselves. Again, we want to empower bands to operate more
like a business and realize that there is money out there to be made on their
own by doing something they love the most…play their music! It’s the Internet
baby!
HMTV Canada: When it comes to Hollywood Music TV concerts,
and events how much hard work is involved on gathering our Hollywood Music TV
Crew, VJ’s? Do we get a great turn out of people attending these concerts and
events that Hollywood Music TV features?
Steve: We work very hard and soon will be doing events with
our networking partners such as Monster Energy Drink, Jager, Draven and
other’s. Hollywood Music is now becoming a worldwide brand, so our VJ’s are
becoming well known on the streets and at concert events, as you have seen in
the great popularity of Metal Sanaz. A perfect example is along with her
Myspace profile and being out on the streets with Hollywood Music TV promoting bands,
Metal Sanaz has made a great name for herself, and we are proud of her and
proud to have helped. When it comes to events, we co-produce events with
partners, and we are also invited to cover events by the record labels and PR
firms we work with such as Ozzfest, Vans Warped Tour, Family Values, Sounds of
the Underground and 100’s of Independent Production. This takes a lot of work
from the Hollywood Music Crew to produce a top-quality production for HMTV
HMTV Canada: Steve what are your hopes and goals for us at
Hollywood Music TV? Things you would like to see improvement on or any advice
that will help our crew with any changes to come in the future as our music
site grows bigger and better by the day?
Steve: Our number 1 goal is to have the Hollywood Music
Brand as a global recognition, and known as a company that is professional and
employ’s Highly Motivated Individuals that have one passion in life. And that
is to become successful in their chosen profession while supporting musicians
all over the world. We will continue to branch out in other music markets,
bring a little bit of Hollywood Music TV to your home town, and always growing
and developing new features and opportunity while keeping our eyes on the
highly daily changing Internet world.
HMTV Canada: Last question does you have a favorite music,
Artist? Is there anyone you would like to acknowledge give shout outs to and
any last words?
Steve: The only shoot outs I would like to throw out there
is to the whole entire Hollywood Music Staff and crew from the Street Team
Members to the VJ’s and, thank you so much for all your hard work. As for
Artist, I am such a huge music fan that I cannot single out any particular
bands, but I think the ones who know me and know what I do, also know how I
feel about them. So, to all you bands out there that are working your ass off
for your career, get involved with Hollywood Music TV, I can guarantee you that
the Hollywood Music Crew will work their ass off for you, so why do it alone?
HMTV Canada: Steve thank you for taking the time to complete
HMTV’s Canada Online Ezine interview. You Rock.
Steve: Hollywood Music TV is the best!
Brought to you by Hollywood Music TV Canada Tina
