HMTV Canada: Hi Guys Congratulations on your 3 song EP
Nothing Left To Believe this will sure keep the hungry fans satisfied for a
while. Will you be coming out with your full length Nothing Left To Believe
soon?
A: We hope to find a home (with the right record label) as
soon as possible, at which point we'll get to work on our debut full-length
album. We have a title in mind, but we're keeping it quiet for now -
"Nothing Left To Believe" is also the name of one of our songs, but
it won't be the name of our first album (or any other, for that matter).
HMTV Canada: How does this new Album differ than your
previous Albums Somewhere In The Middle and Fading Into The Sun both lyrically
and in sound?
A: It's a huge leap forward in every way - production,
songwriting, lyrics, performances, everything. Lyrically, the themes we explore
continue to be relevant in terms of having a world view - we try to make
universal themes personal and identifiable. A producer/engineer who has
mentored us told us once that a band tends to develop in one of three ways -
they get better, they get worse, or they stay about the same. I'd like to think
we're always getting better!
HMTV Canada: What motivates or inspires the band to write
lyrics based on Life’s struggles, social issues, lost hopes are they based on
experiences the band members have gone through and do all the band members
contribute to the lyrics?
A: Rob writes all of the lyrics - the band trusts him to
work hard and do a great job! The motivation for these lyrics comes from his
own experiences and opinions, but he really strives to find a way to broaden
his perspective and create something thought-provoking and emotionally
powerful.
HMTV Canada: Were there any challenges in laying down the
song tracks for Nothing Left To Believe to the recording?
A: The usual challenges - time and money! We had some bumps
in the road during the process, and some moments of despair. But in the end,
we're happy with how it came out, and we look forward to applying what we
learned to the process of making an album.
HMTV Canada: Who
helps with the mixing and mastering of the entire band s music production?
A: In the past, we self-produced our EP's, with very little
outside help or influence. This time around, we were thrilled to benefit from
the wizardry of Sylvia Massy, Jim Wood, and Bryan Carlstrom. We also had a lot
of help from our good friend Eric Gillingham.
HMTV Canada: Will Immune be making any music videos from
their song tracks off of Nothing Left To Believe?
A: We already did! We shot a video for "I'd Rather
Die" with Stefan Glidden, a fantastic director. The video is available at
youtube.com/immuneca, but I believe you have a copy!!!
HMTV Canada: Do all the band members share the same musical
influences and do they like to try new ideas or things to their sound?
A: We share a handful of common influences, but we each have
our own unqiue tastes. I think we each manage to bring something different to
our music, and we share a common goal of writing the best possible songs while
finding a way to embellish the music with "personal touches."
HMTV Canada: How did your last gig go when you opened up for
AC/DC and Guns and Roses did you receive a great turn out of fans attending.
A: Ha-ha-ha-ha the power of advertising - those were tribute
bands. It was a great show - our first at House of Blues in Hollywood!
HMTV Canada: What comes to mind as the band’s favorite music
festival, venue or past tours as being the most memorable and why?
A: Some of the highlights - our first show in LA at The Gig,
our first Viper Room show...working our way up to playing great spots like
Cinespace, Whisky, Roxy, Key Club, and House of Blues.
HMTV Canada: What the LA music scene is like is there lots
of clubs to play at?
A: Yes! It's hard at first - there are a lot of politics to
deal with in LA, and it takes a while to find the best promoters and the best
venues. There is definitely no shortage of places to play here, though.
HMTV Canada: Is the band seeking a record label and what do
they want in a record deal is it tour support and major distribution of their
music?
A: We are definitely looking for a deal. The type of music
we play - commercially oriented hard rock - means that we need a label with the
resources to properly promote and market us, both on the radio and on tour.
Unfortunately, that is going to make the process of signing a deal longer and
more difficult.
HMTV Canada: What is the bands focus for 2009 or hopes and
goals they want to achieve is the emphasis on playing more live shows or
writing new material?
A: We are always writing new songs with our first album in
mind, and working on polishing our live show. We're friendly with the folks at
Live Nation - we should have a couple of HUGE shows to announce with them very
soon. We're planning to track a song or two with producer Brandon Friesen, then
shop for the best label deal...we'd like to have a deal in place before the end
of October.
A: Before we wrap up our interview does immune have any
shout outs to friends or fans?
A: We want to send a big shout out to ALL of our friends and
fans - THANK YOU!!! And a shout out to you and your staff for featuring us!!!
HMTV Canada: Thank you, Immune, for allowing our eZine to
interview your band Horns High You Rock.
