HMTV Canada: Hi Feed Me Congratulations on the release of
your recent Album Marching Stickmen. Can you tell us a little about the song
themes their meanings and the journey this Album has taken to the laying of the
song tracks to the recording process?
A. Well there isn’t a theme per se; we consider this album
more of a launching point for our music and a general idea about our sound. We
spent almost four months writing and recording the album simultaneously,
basically through jamming.
HMTV Canada: Did the band have any help in the mixing and
mastering of Marching Stickmen?
A. No, Nader handled
all of that.
HMTV Canada: Feed Me is made up of three members Nader
Ahmed, Mohammed Ashraf 'SikSik', and Ahmed Abdel Aziz 'ZiZO, do all the band
members share the same influences for their music and do they like to
experiment and try new things to their sound?
A. No all members come from different musical backgrounds
and it kind of shows in the music. Nader is more into bands like Radiohead,
Depeche Mode, Mogwai, and Aphex Twin, whereas Ahmed ‘Zizo’ leans more towards
the heavier genres of music along with acoustic stuff, and finally Mohammed is
into Porcupine Tree, Steven Wilson, Oceansize, Sigur Ros and all sorts of Post
Rock, Ambience, and Shoegaze. This helps out a lot in influencing our sound and
the variety in our songs. Certainly, this also implies that we love to
experiment with sounds.
HMTV Canada: What is the music scene like in Cairo Egypt are
there lots of clubs the band can play at how did your last live performance go
did you receive a great turn out of fans attending?
A. The music scene in
Egypt is pretty limited, and we have very limited venues to perform at. So far
we have had only one concert and we received pretty good reviews, however, that
may be simply because no other band in Egypt plays our kind of music.
HMTV Canada: What ideas does the band have for the Cover Art
for their Album Marching Stickmen? Marching Stickmen (CD)2009
A. British graphics designer Oliver Cartwright did the
artwork for Marching Stickmen, and the theme revolves around the contrast that
lies between the clarity of nature and the chaos that exists in our world which
is represented by the anthrax strain virus on the cover.
HMTV Canada: Has the internet been a great tool for helping
Feed Me Band get their name known internationally and is the band on other free
sites like Reverbnation, Twitter and Facebook?
A. Myspace has been of great help in spreading our music
since it’s almost impossible to get heard otherwise here in Egypt. We do have a
Facebook page as well but it hasn’t been as successful.
HMTV Canada: Is music equipment expensive to buy in Egypt
how is the market over there to get the equipment you need to record and make
music?
A. The music equipment market is almost nonexistent; we have
a very limited number of outlets and an even lesser variety of equipment. The
prices are almost double and if a piece of equipment breaks down then you’ll
never any find sort of professional help.
HMTV Canada: You mentioned in your bio that all 3 band
members also belong to a progressive, alternative, rock style band Headcase do
you have a MySpace site for Headcase?
A. Not yet. We are currently working on recording Headcase’s
material and we will launch a Myspace page as soon as we’re done.
HMTV Canada: Are there any restrictions to the types of
music that musicians play in Cairo Egypt because of religion and is
alternative, rock or metal genre of music popular in in what the fans want to
hear or is it more of an underground music scene?
A. There aren’t any restrictions regarding genre, actually
there is thriving fan base of metal and rock especially the heavier genres of
metal. However, rock and metal remain to be underground compared to Arabic pop
for example.
HMTV Canada: Can you tell us about Headcase are there any
albums being produced and have any songs been written yet what does Headcase
express in their lyrics and are there any other band members?
A. As mentioned earlier, we are currently working on
Headcase’s album, we’ve written about six songs so far most of which four have
lyrics that talk about escape, alternate reality, and politics. The band is a
six piece and in addition to the three of us we have a bassist, a drummer, and
a vocalist.
HMTV Canada: Are record labels rare in Egypt what does the
band look for in a record deal is it both tour support and mass distribution of
their music?
A. There are a couple of labels here in Egypt, but they
neither provide what we’re looking for nor do they support our kind of music.
What we look for in a record deal is primarily touring followed by mass
distribution of our music.
HMTV Canada: This brings me to my next question if the band
landed a record deal is there any limitations where they can travel for tours,
are they allowed to leave Cairo Egypt to play in other countries?
A. Definitely we can play abroad. We are actually looking
forward to do that.
HMTV Canada: What is Feed Me Bands goals for 2009 what do
they wish to accomplish and what to they hope for?
A. First of all we would like to see how our debut album
will do amongst fans of the genre and how it’d rate among this year’s other
releases. Concerning our music we would like to expand on our song writing
abilities, experiment more, and hopefully by the end of the year have another
album of better quality and production.
HMTV Canada: Before we wrap up our interview does the band
have any shout outs to fans or friends.
A. We would just like to thank everyone who’s been
supportive of our music so far and we hope that our album pleases those who
listen to it.
HMTV Canada: I want to thank Feed Me Band for taking the
time to complete the questions for our online interview. You Rock
